Imbibing within herself the essence of Kathak of the Lucknow Gharana, its lyrical and sensuous movements, treasure of its scintillating rhythmic patterns and subtle abhinaya, Sangita Chatterjee entered the whirling world of beautiful dance under the tutelage of Guru Smt Vaswati Misra, one of the leading proponents of Lucknow Gharana Kathak.

An empanelled artist of ICCR, IWCF and SPIC MACAY, Sangita has emerged as a soloist par excellence and has carved her niche as a thinking dancer whose approach towards the art is beyond mere performance. Having performed before lauding critics and an appreciative audience throughout India and the world, some of her stage acts include Umak Festival Delhi, Allaudin Khan Academy’s Ekal Utsav (Bhopal), Aarambh Festival by Raza Foundation, Delhi and Jayadev Festival, Bhuvaneshwar, Krishnakshetra by Usha RK, Delhi, Annual Music and Dance Festival organized by Classic (Calcutta, Delhi and Agartala), Sopan Festival by Sahitya Kala Parishad (Delhi), Manthan Festival (Delhi), Bhartotsav in Karnataka, Haldiya Festival (West Bengal, Nalanda Nrityotsav (Bombay),Baithak at Pracheen Kala Kendra (Chandigarh), Darpan Festival of Dance and Music (Delhi), Bahrompur Dance Festival. Indorama Festival (Bangkok), India International Travel Fare (Taiwan) and International Dance Festival (Taiwan).

ImTo regale Kathak lovers, she has performed at prestigious shows held across countries such as the US of A, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland. Croatia, Slovak, Slovenia, Holland, Spain, South Africa, Ghana. Jordan, Taiwan, Bangkok Reunion Island, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, Romania and Japan, where she also conducted workshops and lecture demonstrations

Extending her expertise to the field of choreography, Sangita had the honour to choreograph for the occasion of the State Visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister to India at Rashtrapati Bhawan in the presence of then President Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the entire political galaxy of India.

As a choreographer the dancer has worked in collaborative projects with different embassies for cross-cultural productions, amongst which RAMAYAN with Japanese Nihonbuyo dancers courted critical acclaim. The artist has been awarded with Sringar Mani and Jayadev Samman by prestigious organisations for her performances.

Extensively written about by eminent media publications, Sangita is currently the artistic director of the cultural organisation, Kalpataru Arts, where she imparts training to the young budding talents, creating new productions apart from promoting Indian art and culture.
